So I thought of this question to ask to day when searching for some info on the site and reading something about buck tags.
In an article that Jim P, and Kevin M wrote about the first 8 Cougars, I have read in the third paragraph "Buck tags, those rectangular black painted metal tags mounted to the right front of the radiator core support, had not yet been utilized at the Dearborn plant."
Article also states the first 8 Cougars being built in the early part of Sept 1966.
So my early production Cougar with a scheduled build date of 10-28-66 lacks a buck tag, and I have often wondered why. Thought it might, or must be that it had front end damage at some point, (even though it isn't apparent) and the tag got removed, and not put back on. Or PO's removed it for some reason. All spot welds on apron to core support look factory. There is no hole in the corner where something once was, and the apron carries the correct vin number. In fact I even opted to repair the apron under the battery tray, rather that cut it all out and replace it.
So does anyone know about when they started using buck tags at Dearborn, assuming the article is correct? If it helps my cars consecutive unit number is 16306
