CJ head dates
« on: September 06, 2018, 06:54:19 PM »
Hey Folks,

I came across a CJ head that the seller says was from his 68 KR built in June. The date code is 8B13. Would that be February?

Too early for the car?

Jim

That's a fairly common date for '68 1/2 CJ heads. Unlike 390GT and 302 heads, Ford did not cast 428CJ heads every day of the week or even every week. They were cast in batches in order that there would be enough available when the time came to use them.

That being said, my June ' 68 428CJ has its original engine, heads etc. My heads are dated 8D12. I think it would be unlikely, but technically possible, for a February dated head to be on a June produced 428CJ, particularly since the Shelby would have been assembled at Metuchen where engines had to be available much earlier than what would be normal for Dearborn where my car was assembled.
