67 Console & Seatbelt Combination Discussion
« on: April 02, 2020, 01:25:08 AM »
Here is another detail - seatbelts. If your 67 has deluxe seatbelts you are good to go. If you have standard seatbelts and care about correctness you’ll want to switch them for deluxe. Also I believe the deluxe buckle is just that little bit narrower then the standard and thus fitting better into the buckle holes in the console - I believe that to be the reason why the Osborne manual lists deluxe belts as mandatory with RPO console.

I have interior decor with lower console, but standard belts, and no issues that I recall with fit.  I've never noticed the note, will take a look later.  Even if there, it might have been an engineering recommendation that was either not followed through on or was rejected by those involved with marketing and pricing.

...or an anomaly of sorts to have a RPO console AND Interior Decor group without.
FWIW, I have all 3 of these options listed on my Marti so, you have that going for the comment on the "Assembly Manual" notation.

Richard, does your Marti report explicitly list the deluxe belts?

Mine lists interior decor and lower console, but no deluxe belts.

Unless mine slipped through anything Ford would have put in place to prevent such a combination from being built, I don't think that the term anomaly is accurate.

Bob (19667Bob) has a lot of original dealer ordering information, there might be some clues there.  That plus the Osborn would be a preponderance of information in my book.  But the Osborn alone (plus your car, as nice as it is 8)) leaves me wanting.

I can also go through a bunch of pictures to see if I can find any more.

But we have drifted quite a bit now from the original thread.  Might be time for a split.

Yes, Deluxe Belts, Console (AND Rocker moldings) which, in case my previous comment was confusing,  suggest to me that the STANDARD belts certainly COULD come stock in a RPO console 67 Mustang.

The language in the Assembly Manual reads: (quote copied)
"(C7ZB-65611A72-FW) FOR R.P.O.MODELS
C7Z?-63-65,  MANDATORY WITH CONSOLE.
(C7ZB-65611A72-EW)  FOR MODELS C7ZB-63-65.
BEL' ASSEMBLY  -  FRONT SEAT COMPLETE. 1
REQUIRED EACH SIDE.  SEE FIGURE  2  AND VIEW
"BB"  AND "DD". "

note: not same as convertible

Below are shots from the assy manual to help readers who do not have the manual.

My '67 is the same way.  Interior decor group with the console, but has standard seat belts.  The Marti Report doesn't have deluxe belts listed as an option.
Too much junk, too little time.

This Reply is intended to address the "Seat Belt issue" only ; specifically Standard versus Deluxe for the Console Option.

I will first note the sources used, and then my conclusions.

1) 1967 Showroom Options Book (typically these were available at Model Introduction)
No mention of Deluxe Belts required with Console.

2) Mustang Sales Brochure (Dated 8/66)
No mention of Deluxe Seat Belts, but does note that "Radio or AM-8 Track required.

3) 1967 Ford Car Facts Binder (Mustang pages Dated 10/28/66)
No mention of Deluxe Seat Belts, but does note "Radio required".

4) 1967 Salesmen's Manufacturers List Price Book (Book Dated 11/07/1966, Mustang pages 10/17/66)
No mention of Deluxe Seat Belts, only that "Radio required".

5) 1967 Interior Assembly Manual (page on "Console Assembly" Dated 12/16/66)
No note in regard to Deluxe Seat Belts being required (possibly a later version may have said note)

6) Mustang Sales Brochure (Dated 1/67)
No mention of Deluxe Seat Belts, but does note Console (Radio or AM-8 Track required)

7) 1967 Salesmen's Manufacturers List Price Book (Book Dated 05/29/1967, Mustang pages 03/10/1967)
Notes Console(Radio and Deluxe Seat Belts required)

8) 1967 Interior Assembly Manual (page T7-8695 on "Seat Section" Dated 03/28/67)
Notes Deluxe Seat Belts are "Mandatory with Consoles".

9) TSB Index for January 1966 through December 1968
Shows nothing related to Consoles and Seat Belt requirements.

10) 1967 Special Service Letters (by no means all that ere issued ; only the several I have)
None related to Consoles and Deluxe Seat Belts

Based on the above, it appears that sometime between January 1967, and March 10, 1967, the requirement was added the Deluxe Seat Belt Option be included with the Console Option.

Of course the best way to confirm, as well as narrow down the time period, is with known original examples, or their Marti Reports.

As a start,  drummingrocks, what was your build date?

Hope this is of some help.

Bob, impressive!  A most reasonable conclusion.  Probably time to look at unrestored cars from Jan through March

Jeff, thanks for the split.

Does anyone think this should be classified as a running change?  I don’t but others might.

I restored this car in 1995 - 96. It has the deluxe interior, upper and lower consoles listed on the Marti Report. Standard belts, we had them restored by Snake Oyl.

The car had the standard belts then and now. No mention of deluxe belts on the Marti Report or the Ford CAC Report. Car was built Monday, October 31,1966 San Jose. Options included the GT package, Deluxe interior, Upper and Lower consoles, AM Radio, 390GT engine, 4 speed manual transmission.

I would expect that the report would list "console" (as in lower), because the upper is part of the interior decor group option.  Just trying to be accurate for others that might read this and get confused.

Royce : Thanks for your input. That's just the kind of information we need from others.

My car listed in signature has deluxe interior, console, and standard seat belts.  Confirmed by Marti report as original.
