My Mach also has these markings on it.  Would these be paint or body inspections?   The 4s ones are under the hood and under the rear bumper in the taillight panel area.  The yellow one is on the outside pass side battery panel.  Interesting original markings from the factory.

The S, D  and 5 look very typical.

Shows the engine size, hood black out for the Mach I package and the typical "D" that we see on every car. Since its non every car we haven't been able to determine what its purpose was or what it was meant to communicate to others. Also none of the workers from the time recalled its purpose nor were the couple of guys assigned to applying it

Its interesting history for sure and this stamp appears to be a different font then other stamps from the same person.  Maybe he wore the stamp out and his replacement was a different font?   Cool stuff!

The 23 is only part of that stamp (missing some letters) that was assigned and did not belong to another inspector/Henry.

Not the same person - 23 and Henry

That style started being used in 67 and the stamp with Henry's first name was new for 69. I've seen that stamp or one of his in person. He gave it to a friend of mine when he started working at Westinghouse after he left Ford - San Jose closed.

I have records of inspector 23 working at least through April 1969 in that position

VERY COOL !!   Thanks for the info Jeff!     I'm still trying to figure out the 4s on the hood and rear panel.   So many marks and so much history.

What are you trying to figure out. Applied by two different workers since those items (body and hood) were in two different parts of the plant so handwriting differs. Looks like either 43 or 45 at this point.

Based on the other handwriting examples I have pictures of I would say it is most likely "45" The workers "3"s were shaped normally differently than what we're seeing on your taillight panel

Guessing you don't have one of the buildsheets to double check. Other items I listed (if they are still marked) may provide more examples to support or confirm the number

You just answered my questions   The one thing I don't have is the build sheet.  The prior owner took the carpet out due to wear and it is long gone.  Thanks for the info.
