Topic: Gas tank preservation

I just got my new tank for the SCJ from Virginia Mustang and was wondering if I should clear coat it or use some other method or means of preserving the metal. It is not stainless steel but its really shiny, almost too shiny maybe.

Originals were coated with a tin-lead solder like material. You will sometimes see the stamps that say "Long Ternes" steel in random locations on the tank.

Likely (for the exterior) to cost it with a protective wax or oil like any natural and bare metal part on the car

For clarity, the sheet steel used for gas tank pieces arrived at the stamping plant with Ni-Terne coating.  The Long Ternes stamp would have been on the sheets before the stamping process.
