My old car was auctioned off again...
« on: January 24, 2012, 03:20:43 PM »
Some may remember a light blue '65 GT convertible I restored in 2005.  Ended up selling it at Russo & Steele in Jan '06 in Scottsdale and thought I did pretty well with a realized price of $72,600.  Found out today that the car was consigned at Gooding & Company this past weekend in Scottsdale and sold for a realized price of $90,200!  I am amazed that someone would pay that much for a non-K code convertible.  Most that know me know that I don't particularly care for attention, but guess I'm feeling a little proud of this.   ;D   8)

That price it brought has more to do with all the UPGRADES that have been done to it since it left your hands!

OUCH!

Just Joking, Charles.  I don't know you very well but I SURE hope you have a good sense of humor.

It's a great indicator of the difference in value between a nice looking car and one 'Restored by a Marque Expert'.  I'd be willing to bet it even has the Correct Color Lettering on the Top Power Lead, eh? I'm sure you did a Fantastic Job on that one Charles.  Concours Quality Cars are going to continue to go up in value, IMHO.

Strange huh?  Put styled steel wheels on it, Koni shocks and modern radials... didn't seem to phase the value a bit!  Maybe the original style tires and rims went with the car?  Would be curious to know where the car is going next.  It's been in CA the last 6 years.  Can't help but think the auction venue had a lot to do with the final price, not to mention a mid-day Saturday run slot.

Concerning the power top lead, it actually is the white print version on Dearborn cars and yes it's correct on that car.

Always a sign of a good restoration - not just built to the current (at the time) standard but instead in front of the curve. This way the car does not look dated as some can. Another confirmation that good cars bring good money

Found a few pics of the car on the auction block.  Just too cool for an otherwise "ordinary" Mustang to do well at auction.
