8 inch rear end crush spacer
« on: July 29, 2012, 03:16:58 PM »
I'm putting a new crush spacer on the pinion shaft of my 8 inch rear end, and noticed that the new spacer has a looser fit on the pinion shaft than the old spacer.  Obviously the inner diameter of the new one is a bit larger than the old one.  The old one has a really nice close fit with the pinion shaft while the new one shows some space between the outer diameter of the shaft and the inner diameter of the spacer.

The inner diameter of the old one is 1.20 and the inner diameter of the new one is 1.25, a 50 thousands difference. I know this does not sound like much but it's enough of a difference to make me wonder

Is this normal, or do I have the wrong spacer?

The package for the new one says it's for 7 3/4 inch and 8 inch Ford rear ends

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks: John
