MCA National Show
« on: June 09, 2013, 09:48:14 AM »
This year the Reno Mustang Car Club hosted the MCA National Show Unbridled Spirit 2013, June 7-9 at the Boomtown Casino in Verdi, Nevada just west of Reno. This was my first event in many years. My Mustang wasn't entered as it is still in a non-driveable condition. I spent several hours at this show on Saturday. There were alot of Mustangs representing all the years. Stock Mustangs, GT's, Bosses, California Specials, Stocks, restomods, drag cars etc.

I went there looking for restored cars 64.5 to 66 that were stock with the 170/200  6 cylinder engine.I wanted to get some ideas/photos of how people have restored their cars back to showroom or a concourse condition.  I was surprised to find that there were none at this show.
Every car I looked at had the V8's, is this typical? There were cars from all over the West Coast and I saw two cars from the Mid West..In my opinion this was a small show. I know the V8 is popular and a much better power plant then the 6's I thought there would have been a couple. Are the 200 6's not represented at these shows?

There is another show in Sacramento, California about 125 miles west of Reno on the 22nd of June. I'm thinking of heading over the hill to take a look.

Anyway, this is by no way a compliant only an observation and comment.

That's pretty typical.  At an MCA show of 250 cars, you might see a couple early 6 cyl. cars.  Although sometimes more will be brought out.

The ugly fact of the matter is that the amount of time and $$ that goes into the restoration of one of these cars will exceed the value of a 6 cyl. car, especially a coupe.  There are many people that like them, but I would have to guess that the majority of folks prefer a V8, which you can see reflected in the price guides.  Most of the 6 cyl. cars I have seen restored to concours level typically have an emotional or family story behind them... first car owned, owned by parent or relative that has passed, etc...

I wouldn't suggest the value to deter anyone from restoring a 6, heck, I'm sure there are many V8 cars that have exceeded their value in restoration costs.  But, just wanted to point out one of the reasons that they are usually not well represented at national shows.

Sorry I missed you - meat a number of other members here. Yes the show IMHO was on the smaller size when compared so some others but larger than others also. If your considering going to the one in Sac - if its the one they have every year the attendance there will be less and there will surely be less concourse cars as that is not the focus - Plenty of other than Mustangs to look at .
