Emergency Flasher Switch
« on: December 03, 2013, 10:28:27 PM »
I want to add the an E-Flasher to my 6/65 Dearborn coupe.  Would prefer an entire assy w/switch, relay, wiring harness, etc.

I acquired one a few years back only to find that it was a generic type for all 65 Fords and was the service replacement for Mustangs. It unfortunately did not include the power lead from the cigar lighter to the unit.

I have a couple of these in stock.  Be aware, however, of the approximately 30 e-switches I've refurbished not a single original switch itself still functions correctly.  I replace the switch with a close duplicate but it is not exact.

Contact me if you still want one.

Depending on what you are wanting, original or reproduction, complete reproduction Switch and Wire Assemblies are now available from most Mustang Parts Suppliers.

I don't believe the 1965 Mustang emergency flasher is reproduced. The ones sold by the aftermarket stores are shown as the same as early 1966 Mustangs. They will work, but the switch is designed to go in the glove box, while true 1965 Mustang switches are under the dash near the steering column.

This is what the correct emergency flasher switch looks like for a 65,
as mentioned it mounts under the dash to the left of the steering column.

Just curious if you've been able to locate the correct Emergency Switch? If not, I have found a few possible sources.

Hello:
Haven't checked in here lately due to the Holidays.  I have NOT located a correct switch yet and would greatly appreciate any sources that you have.  I'll PM you as well.  Thank You.

A rare item to find. Keep looking on e-bay, that's probably your best source.

There are still some sources that may have them available but will take a little Internet time to find them.

Another possibility, if 100% correct is not an issue, is to use a 1966 Emergency Flasher Switch and Wiring.

*Discard the Black Mounting Bracket but keep the nut so you can mount the Switch under the Dash as mentioned in a previous response by C5ZZ.
*Paint the Chrome Switch Knob Black for the correct appearance or leave it Chrome if it's not an issue.
*The '66 Wiring is longer as it has to reach the Glove Compartment but the Connectors are the same; just have to neatly wire tie the excess Wiring.
*The '65 Switch has a Bracket for the Flasher attached to it, the '66 does not. You may be able to use the same Bracket type as is used for the turn
Signal Flasher. Reproductions of that Bracket are readily available and often show up on eBay as well.

Great thread!

That may be the way to go.  I appreciate the detailed info and differences between the '65 and the '66.  Many thanks for your time and for passing your knowledge on to me.
