Diff casting numbers
« on: December 06, 2014, 06:20:16 PM »
I have a 67 gt 390 fback and the diff casting numbers are c5aw 4668a. It's a 9 inch but has no tag.
Is this possibly genuine or is it from a 1965 model car?

The number you are seeing is for a standard pinion support. They do have raised dates if you follow the circumference but typically tough to read.  This would be correct for a 67 nine inch 28 spline case. The part number for the case is on the inside lip C7AW-E would be correct. The case will be dated at the 10:00 location looking at the rib side face.

But mine says c5aw 4668a. Isn't that for a 65?

That is not the differential part number. That is a pinion support that is bolted to the differential. The C5AW 4668-A was used all the way to 1970. The casting did not change from introduction in 1965 so it carries the same part number. If you are trying to determine if your differential is original to your S code 67 look at the date cast into the case itself as I referenced in the earlier reply.

Thanks for the info.
The number on the ribbed case at 10:00 location is 7e9. And the other number on the pinion support case is 7e11.
Does that sound right?
Also is it possible to get a race ent tag for the diff?

The number on the ribbed case at 10:00 location is 7e9.

May 9th 1967

And the other number on the pinion support case is 7e11.

May 1th 1967

So if your car is a late 67  looks like its a really nice fit

Think Kevin Marty makes reproductions o the rear end tag
