Thanks guys! I'm going to start welding up some holes.
Depending on how good a welder you are, consider using "JB Weld" on the smaller holes. I also used Bondo on my dash installing a "radio repair panel". My "welds" of the panel warped the dash.

Don't forget that the rubber insulators are different too.

eBay has them, or WCCC.

Allright,
Keep it pure - I get it!  So where would be the best place to find Factory 1968 frame side mounts and Engine mounts?  Or factory parts for that matter?  All I know of is the reproduction stuff....

« Last post by J_Speegle on Today at 01:18:04 PM »
Hi all.
Finally i bought the Stripes which most of the cars on the pictures seema to have: black with gold accent. Another reason was that i did Not find a company which sells black with white accent.
Now I mounted the stripes on my pony and what did I find? At the inner Side of the passenger door there is a small rest of the original Stripes... Black with white accent...  ::). So I will continue to search the correct one for my car...

Nice find though it just adds to the challenge but just another to overcome.

Allot of parts get reproduced when an owner can't find what they need and takes on the challenge

Good luck with your choices

I have been watching Grande's for years. Most end up painting them on. Two things I have noted:
- The insert stripe gets wider at the rear quarter panel. This is often missed when painting them on.
-The overall strip width also increases going from front to back.
- There is a cut out around the door handle. I have not noticed this until recent years so my data is limited and needs to be verified.

NOS Strip kits show up now and then. Probably a lot of them are not reinstalled after painting.

I know this is an old thread but I am restoring a 1964.5 Convertible that is for the most part unmolested.  I just took out and disassembled the instrument cluster.  It would be very shocking if this were not the original equipment.  FWIW there is no marking on the bezel that I can see at all.

Thank you Royce,
But If I want to buy frame side mounts they are listed as fitting as 1965 to 1970 mustang.  Does that mean that those aftermarket frame side kits are the same for the '68 as you point out?  That's my question.

It appears that there are several different versions of "factory" parts for this period.  I don't just want to assume that the aftermarket suppliers settled on the one variant that fits all of those models in-between.  I am hoping to get a confirmation of that assumption.

I don't know what you would get. I would just buy factory 1968 parts. Reproduction stuff usually doesn't fit or work right. [/quote]

I have not used the repro frame mounts but expect them to be deficient in some way or the other. I would buy 68-70 used if it were me. OEM parts will fit better for sure. Yes the aftermarket suppliers settled on the one variant that fits all of those models in-between.
