Sports wheel covers
« on: June 09, 2019, 01:48:30 PM »
Is there any difference between the 70 and 71 sports wheel covers other than paint? I am trying to put together a set of 4 but the ones for the 15X7 wheels are hard to find for either year.

The only other difference beside the color of the argent center would be that all the 71 caps will have the late 70  oval or 'racetrack" shaped valve stem hole instead of the early "football" hole ....

For 1970, there are two different depths of Sport wheel cover for 14"x6" rim (351 2bbl) and 14"x7" rim (351 4bbl/428). I am not sure of the variations for the 15" Sport wheel cover.

Football valve stem hole, on that one. I have two racetrack holes and one football hole right now. Don't want to mix those even though it was probably possible that a car came with both types if it was built near the changeover date.

From parts I have "on the shelf" at my storage. The 15" Sports Wheel Covers with the "football" shape hole carry a D0 part number, the 15" Sports Wheel Covers with the "racetrack" carry a D1 part number. I do happen to think that on a 1970 BOSS 302 these have a very different look to them. I'm glad that our 1970 BOSS came with these wheel covers and also glad to have a spare. Pretty rare option.
