Title: Voltage regulator wire harness connection
Post by: MattDoscher on December 11, 2023, 09:11:50 PM
While troubleshooting a RFI issue in the radio of my '65 Comet with headlights on I found that my voltage regulator wire harness connection at the voltage regulator has a female wire terminal missing from inside the molded harness connector.  This terminal would normally be plugged into the top "I" of the regulator.  Referencing the '65 Shop Manual, part 13-3 identifies "I" as the charge indicator light terminal.  I'm assuming "light" refers to the battery warning light in the dash.  Since my Comet has gauges and an ammeter is this why that wire terminal is not present?

Cars with ammeters use 3 pins on the voltage regulator plug; cars with alternator indicator lamps use all 4 pins on the voltage regulator plug.

Thanks Randy.  I did not know this.
