Door Handles Ext.
« on: January 18, 2020, 04:57:04 PM »
Pretty much a trivia question...  My 65 has the C3XB exterior door handles.  Another 66 car I owned had the C4DX handles.  My 69 handles are only ID'ed with the FoMoCo logo in the box. Left Door.  The Right door handle has a Ford logo in the oval.  Neither 69 door handle has the expected C9ZB engineering number cast into it.  So the question would be; 65-66 came with engineering numbers and 69-70 did not ?  No 67-68 cars around here so don't know about them.  Thanks, Brian

65 /66 are the same style and interchange with 69/70.

Basic part number 22404.

1975 MPC lists the 65/66 and 69/70 as a C4DZ part (as Bob mentioned they are the same style), while 67/68 is a C7ZZ part.

The 1965 single year MPC also lists C4DZ

Perhaps the C3XB is part of the engineering part number, not the service part number.

A bit of clarification (again). When you order any item from a Ford service department, it will be listed with a "Z" in the forth position (C5AZ-) of the number. That is an inventory number. The "Z" signifies the item is controlled by the Ford service organization. It may be identified by a tag, a label or by the box it is in. That's the way you get it, even on e-bay. If the service department needs to order some more of those items, they will use that inventory number to make their order. Throughout the entire Ford system that number is used - right up to the time the actual part needs to be made. That final document says to make the item using a document having a part number that starts like this - C5AB- (an example). That document is referred to as the engineering drawing (by us at least), and will specify material, dimensions, process, finish among other aspics of making that item, including the marking of the item, which in most cases is the engineering number. It goes back up thru the Ford system identified with the previously mentioned tags, labels or boxes.
