Title: 1969/70 Steering Column Question
Post by: sah62 on April 22, 2010, 08:59:59 AM
Does anyone have a 1969 or 1970 column out for easy access to measure something?  I need to know the exact (as in "measured with a caliper, please") diameter of the hole in the bottom of the steering shaft where the mounting flange attaches to the rag joint.  I'm looking to reproduce the foam seals that go inside the lower portion of the column, and while looking at diagrams I found that there's supposed to be a foam rubber plug that fills that opening.  If I know the diameter I can have that plug produced very easily.

Scott I can measure mine as it's out and will be for awhile yet!!
There are two tubes inner and outer, the inner has a plastic insert in the end. Do you want the inside diameter of the inner tube or the inside diameter of the plastic insert?

It's best to show you with a picture.  I'm looking for the diameter of the hole that's circled in red where the part numbered 3B361 is installed.

The inside diameter on mine is 0.79 inches. there is a small amount of surface rust inside but would only amount to a couple of thou.
