Title: water pump paint
Post by: DKutz on January 29, 2016, 06:04:45 PM
So water pump was painted on the engine.  Was the whole thing sprayed black with the block?  shaft and all?

Oct 7 64 SJ build

P.S. This post will be moved, I am sure of it...

Water pump would be attached before engine paint.

I know that, is the whole thing painted black?  Including the shaft etc?

I usually tape up the shaft and end.  It can't be seen once the pulley is installed.

Triple checking water pump color on a this July 64 D code pump. When I cleaned it up, it really did not look like it had any black on it.

It is the C-5AE-8585 C

The pump, timing cover and attaching hardware (plus a lot of other items) were on the engine when it was painted. New replacement pumps were not painted. Rebuilt pumps are/were a different story. The original paint "may" not have been entirely removed.
