Title: Easiest or Safest way to mount FRONT BUMPERS
Post by: 67gtasanjose on October 12, 2020, 01:13:46 PM
I figure this crosses over all 64-1/2 thru 70's at very least but I am working on a 67.

1.) Bumper with brackets attached (then add the valance)?

2.) Brackets mounted first, with no lower valance?

3.) Brackets mounted first WITH lower valance?

I install bumper arms with the bolts loose, them install the valence. Lastly I wrap bumpers ends with shop towels then bolt up everything loose. After I am happy it is strait and fits well I tighten all bolts.

Note: that is my #1 choice. I haven't put one on for about 20+ years and when I was test fitting before paint, that seemed the wisest way. Now that there is paint...well, you know!

If you look at the 67 Mustang Body Assembly Manual (AM0016), the items you mention are shown on page 8 in order of assembly. That order of assembly is used on all manuals (the chassis manuals sort of follows that philosophy). The pages of the manuals are also an assembly order instruction (there are a couple of exceptions). Look at the lower right corner for assembly drawing number. Page 8 of AM0016, the 67 Body Manual, is also identified as N7-8100 (it's very faint print).

#3 is the method I favor.  Brian

Never really thought about options though I guess there always were. Used only #3 for front bumpers. Guess less moving parts
