Title: Leaf Spring Rebuild Question
Post by: G Wood on January 25, 2010, 10:49:30 AM
Any advice for removing the steel sleeve inside the front spring mount on a leaf spring. When you remove the rubber bushing, the sleeve stays in the spring. To insert the new bushing and sleeve, the old sleeve must come out.

chuck it up in a vise & cut the old rubber off.

If you've already gotten the rubber portion out, IMHO, the hardest part is done! You can simply use a chisel to split the steel sleeve. I split it at the area where the spring eye wraps over and forms a gap. That way you won't be hitting the spring. Once it's split, the sleeve taps out easily.
