Title: 65 two groove water pump pulley question
Post by: e093116 on February 16, 2010, 09:26:26 PM
I recently purchased this pulley on eBay.  It is marked C5AE-8509A.

There are 4 extra holes in it that I have never seen in a water pump pulley.  Wondering if this is original for proper balancing or if they got drilled somewere in the life of the part.  FWIW, the holes look like they were made the same way as the holes for the 4 spacer/water pump bolt holes.

Comments welcome.

Never seen one like that before.  Maybe an old racer trick or something?

I also don't remember seeing the holes but conclude it must be for balancing also. I don't believe it is factory done IMHO. Bob

Have seen at least a couple with the extra holes drilled. Could not explain them either. Don't recall if they were single or double grooved

I wouldn't use it unless I had to especially since it isn't in it's original context on your engine IMHO. It is not a hard pulley to find in the scheme of things.  Even if eventually info bears out that it is a factory variant it will certainly raise questions on any kind of original appearing car . Unless of course you like a lot of questions and controversy then that pulley is the ticket . Just my 2 cents. Bob

+1   - you don't want to be the "pulley with the holes in it" owner ;)

My same pulley doesnt have such holes. Given the pulley size/weight/diameter it would not need to be balanced to be safely used. Someone might have thought it would be fun to try though.
