Holes in trunk dropoffs
« on: April 26, 2010, 07:21:29 AM »
My Dynacorn trunk dropoffs have 2 round holes in each.  I assume the rear most holes are where the backup light wires enter the trunk.  The front holes are at the lowest point and I think they get a round rubber plug....BUT...
These 2 round holes have a 3/8" square hole just above them... What's this square hole for on a 66?

From my understanding, the drop-offs are made so they are compatible with 65-68.  The square holes are for the 67-8 style drain cover.  If you want yours to be correct, you'll have to do some alterations.

You may need to check the size of the hole for the back-up light wire grommet also.  67-8 used a larger grommet than 65-66.

That's OK...the repro grommets for 65/66 are larger than OEM.

So that makes it acceptable?!  ;D

I have MY OEM backup light assys anyway, so the grommets are too small.  I'll make the holes smaller with my "ACME Hole Shrinker."

I have found that the holes on the repop drop offs are not only the wrong size but the wrong location as well and when you try to install the wiring harness for the backup lamps it don't reach. The drain hole is wrong most of the time too and does not have the square hole that the drain plug snaps into. As with all repop parts you have to assume everything is wrong so check it twice and sometimes they make a mistake and actually make the parts correct.

Can you provide me a picture or the measurements of where the backup lamp harness grommets are suppose to locate?

Bryan, I believe my drop offs are original (Just about rusted off). Here's a pic with hole locating dimensions. The 4 3/4" measurement is from the underside of the bend into the trunk.
