Question re: Rear leaf spring paint marks
« on: July 30, 2010, 09:05:48 PM »
I am restoring a 1965 Convertible with a scheduled build date of Jan. 6th at Dearborn.  I am searching for the color of the paint marks on the rear leaf springs and how they would be applied.  This car is a 6-cylinder manual transmission.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Most likely were spray dots.  Don't have any good references to look at for 6 cyl. markings.

From a set of original Oct '64 6 cyl springs I've come across I've seen two blue dots, almost like a robin's egg blue. (Close match is Rust Oleum Spa Blue) I'm guessing they were from a SJ car because they were not dots but rather the drip version that sags down as if the springs were on their sides when painted.

Matching paint marks on rear springs is always tricky IMHO since they often used different springs (they had allot of them) for very slight differences between cars (trans, body style ......)

SO I suggest that we start with the numbers on your springs - find them, post them and we can start there.

Thanks for all the help.

Closest I could come to it was a pair of 65 dated C4ZA-N springs that came in last week.  Can barely make out a yellow spray dot (or what remains of it ) on the short leaf

Hope this helps
