My advice is to rebuild the entire system including the gearbox.  Your system is over 50 years old.

Especially the gearbox. The grease has turned to the consistency of clay if not had as rock after 50 years. Who knows how long the bearings have only had clay to lubricate them. The bearing wear and the steering gets loose.  With the gear box rebuilt you will not believe how tight the steering will feel (along with the power control valve).
