1968 GT 390 Rad Shroud (Is this the correct part number)
« on: November 30, 2018, 11:08:15 PM »
Just curious if this would be the right part number for a rad shroud for my car. It is listed for sale for $250.00. I already purchased a repopulated, but prefer a correct original

Thanks

No . Unfortunately the one you need (C8-A marked on the shroud) is very rare and typically sells for 1200-1400.00  if you can even find one. The 68 and 69 GT500's used the same one .

Wow so what are guys doing? What is more acceptable a repopulated or a real one with the wrong code. I am starting to see that a lot of the parts I am looking for are shared with the GT 500’s and Cobra Jets which drives the price up. Perhaps I bought the wrong car lol 😂

A genuine Ford service part is better then the current reproduction however ether is wrong compared to the assemblyline one. To complicate things there are several versions (evolution)of the service replacement 68-70 shroud. The service shrouds typically range in price from 400-800.00 so because of that most go with the good injection molded reproduction which looks closest to the last evolution of the service shroud.

I have what I have been told is the best reproduction version, but thought if I found a good original unit I would use that instead

What do you think this shroud is out of or what car would this shroud have been installed in from the factory

The shroud that you need was installed originally in 1968 - 70 Mustangs equipped with either 390 or 428CJ engines.

The only other car line that used the same shroud is the '68 - 70 Cougar with either 390, 427, or 428 CI engines.

A reproduction is available from any of the usual Mustang / Cougar part sellers. The repro is molded plastic, unlike the originals which are molded glass fiber reinforced plastic. Most of us cannot justify the price difference of an original.

Here's the repro:

Thanks Royce I agree that $1400.00 to $1600.00 is a bit too much imo. I thought that the reproduction was expensive lol

But that is a good point because I would use reproduction parts that are of good quality, fit and finish that are acceptable and recognized a a worthy replacement. Its just knowing which parts they are and avoiding the ones that are not.
