69/70 Rear Spoiler support leg gaskets?
« on: November 28, 2019, 02:01:06 PM »
I have a pair of NOS D1ZZ-6344228-A rear spoiler support leg pads/gaskets
Are these a replacement for the D0ZB ones used in 70? MPC shows left and right part numbers too.
 Can someone elaborate on this?

Not sure what your planned application is but the 69 and the 70 gaskets I've had were different from one another so based on the title (69/70) and your post (71) the gaskets would not be all the same though they may or can be made to fit.

Are 71 and 70's the same?  Sorry don't know that answer at the moment and don't have examples of both to compare

A related thread found by using the words "spoiler gasket"

The 75 MPC shows no gaskets for 69 or 70, only the one you list, and D1ZZ-6344229-A for the LH, and they're for 71 and up. However, NPD shows their 44228-1A gasket pair as replacements for 69-73.

Kind of.  By 1975 the only gasket serviced was the 1971 version, D1ZZ-6344228-A (LH) and D1ZZ-6344229-A (RH).  However, if you look at the spoiler kit (44210) for 69 & 70 you will notice that the D0ZB-6344228-B and D0ZB-6344229-B were included as part of the kit; but not sold separately.  I would think that it is safe to assume that there was a C9 version to start the 1969 model year with.

***update - I see that on the following website they sell a reproduction of the 1969 version and claim that they are different than the 1970 versions currently reproduced.

The 1970 diagram shows the gasket and mounting hardware as "serviced only in kit 44210".

To answer the OP, I would say that it is pretty clear.  You have two 1971/72 (possibly 73) rear spoiler gaskets for the LH side.  The RH side is different, so unfortunately you do not have a matching set.  These are not correct for a 1970 (or 69).  However, I can't say if the use of the D1 parts or the NPD reproductions would be obvious or not.  I would think that trying to use two RH versions would be apparent.

A year or two ago I sold two used ones, with embossed numbers D1ZB-6344228-AA.

Yes as mentioned above they do appear to have been different. I loaned an original pair from a 69 spoiler, base and hardware I picked up so Scott could reproduce what is a simple flat piece of rubber where the 70 appears to have a raised lip around the perimeter.

That’s pretty much all the info that I gathered up too. My car isn’t here to look at either, so I’m relying on book info. Car is a 70’ Boss 302 by the way. The D1 pads do have a raised ridge around them. I’ll keep searching.

I see that WCC (west coast cougars) list a couple of reproductions for what appear to be the 70 Cougar stands. Wonder if they are shaped the same. Might be worth checking out. Sorry didn't check other Mustang related online catalogs but guessed you had already
