SMS vinyl compared on a 67 seat
« on: October 05, 2021, 01:19:57 PM »
Here is a pic of SMS vinyl with protectant lightly applied to get the same sheen level.
The background is the  smooth vinyl on the back seat of my 67 with deluxe interior.

Have never really bought the idea that all of what SMS material is original old stock going from the fact that it is often still off gassing when you received it at least in the past. Of course there were likely a number of manufacturers  and they may not have found or someone had copied a supplier than was not one that supplied one or more of the plants. Very likely more than one was used for all plants - including those that did not build Mustangs

Not sure how many pictures I have of seats up close, normally taking pictures of stitching rather than the texture but will find some time to take a look

The grain is close is some of the denser areas of the originals but what it really misses are the longer "strands" and other variations.

I retract my previous opinion about SMS smooth vinyl. I recently ordered a yard and under direct sunlight, LED or other the latest batch (?) is very true to the smooth vinyl on my 67 Deluxe black interior. So close I ordered enough to redo my front seats.
