TUNG-SOL marked 6012 headlight, application?
« on: November 02, 2021, 04:05:19 PM »
I have a 6012 headlight with the letters 'TUNG-SOL' along the bottom, not the typical t/s insignia.  It also has 'FoMoCo' oval etch in the center and 'Made for Ford' stamp on the back.

Any info appreciated.

Thanks

Believe that 6012 with the Tung Sol spelled out was possibly for a 68 Mustang and other applications like an AMX and Javelin

Guess you didn't find a date stamp on the back side

Unfortunately the ones I have pictures have don't have a car's VIN to go with them

Didn't Marcus do a study on the date codes?
If not Marcus, someone did state that the date is part if that SAE number. If what I am suggesting has merit, wouldn't that be a 1961 date?

The decoding that way works for many taillight lens not sure if bulbs follows that.

Believe Marcus focused on 69-70 bulbs in his pdf don't recall if there was any dating info

Here are some pictures of one of the original Tung Sol headlamp bulbs from my April 24th 1968 Dearborn Mustang.
It's tough to get a good head on shot of the ink stamp but it's clear that the stamping is different than the one in the previously posted picture.

ct429cj  that is correct 69 dearborn bulb for late april car but sometime shortly after april ford either ran out  or ( changed vendors) of the ts fomoco bulbs and no fomoco GE bulbs start showing up. I have been tring to document when exactly this change happened and 69 boss 429s are what i use to document this since most are low mile cars and the inner hi beam dont get used as much as outer low beam.

According to the Chrysler300club.com website tech section:  The "Tung Sol" spelled out at the bottom of the bulb started in 1961 and replaced the prior center located "TS" circle logo. It also states the "H61" indicates a 1961 date code.

It is my belief that Tung-Sol had at least two manufacturing plants making headlights, and this is one example of the differences in manufacturing at the time.  I think they made headlights in New Jersey and also a plant in Canada.

That website info seems to contradict the TS marked bulbs that are commonly found on SJ and Dearborn cars from 1965 to at least the late 60's.

Did this carry on into the ?70 production with the 7 inch  6012 sealed beams or was it a ?69 shortage only?
