Front Valance
« on: June 24, 2011, 05:54:32 AM »
What was the color of the rear side of the front valance? Was it painted a red oxide in the same way as the rear valance?
My interest is in 1967 SJ cars.
Cheers,
Brad.

Most typical would be red-oxide in various shades, but it's possible it could be gray or another primer color.  Probably best to try and find some examples built close in production at the same plant.

Red oxide with  ok to some coverage of exterior color since it was painted off the car. Unlike the rear valance which got allot less, since it was painted on the car

Jeff,

For a  May 70 Dearborn built Boss 2, would red oxide be the most common primer on the backside of the front valance?
How about the backside of the rear valance?

Thanks again,
Tony

Yes both pieces would normally arrive at the plant in a form of red oxide

The front valance hung on hooks as it was painted so it often got a fairly decently coat (though not a smooth shinny one) on the back side

The valance being hung on the car from the taillight panel (hung down from there - not pulled in yet at the ends/bottom) could receive, on the back side) much less paint since the pain application angle was different mostly a bit of overspray from the ends was about it

Would this also apply on a 64 1/2 Dearborn car? My car is a black primer car built mid March. Would the valances have arrived red oxide, or black?

Typically red-oxide.  Be sure to start a new topic if it's something specific to an assembly plant or year of production.
