Topic: 1966 Shift knob

What would be the correct 4 speed shift knob for my 1966 GT?  Currently it's black with white lettering.  Under the back seat I found a wood knob with a Mustang logo on it.  Are either of these correct?

I have heard that the FACTORY INSTALLED shifter knobs in '65s and '66s were made from a special material whos name I can't remember right now and the repros are plastic.........

bakelite. the 'original' plastic. same for distributor cap.

How can you tell the difference?

     If the question is;  the difference between OE and Reproduction.  One quick answer is the OE knob has a threaded steel, grey, mount and is magnetic.  The reproduction knob has a threaded, gold, mount that is made of non magnetic material.  Brian

Sure never seen anything gold around my fine shifter that Bill Healy rebuilt for me-he supplied a reproduction knob, jamb nut and boot all of which look just fine to me.....
