Fastback Vent Drain -
« on: May 06, 2012, 01:43:27 AM »
This is a picture of the right side rear interior of my Oct 65 San Jose build 66 GT "K" Fastback. Although the Ford Car Parts book (Illustration-Body 290.1 pg 4) indicates a drain hose from the vent base, there is no hose, nor is there provisions for a hose (and clamp) on the base. Was this a 65 only drain feature, a Ford proposal or something designed out and nobody got informed? There is a plastic watershield there (66 Mustang Interior Assy manual pg 11). It dropped down to the rear of the door area and will get glued back in place.

Interesting....my Sept. '65 scheduled build San Jose car has the drain nipple (though obviously with the wrong hose).

If it's any help, my Oct. '65 Metuchen built GT fastback also has no tube or nipple for one on the "tray"

From a very limited sample of fastbacks over the years I have noticed that 65 cars have had the drain hose or at least same part of the original still hanging on but I can not remember ever seeing a 66 with that hose or any trace of it ever being there.  Again, just an observation.  Always wondered about the lack of them on 66 fastbacks.

Thanks guys. It looks like a 65 only feature.

It is only a 65 feature.  There is the barest of flanges on the bottom of the drip tray.  I fabbed a PVC pipe to slip over the flange and JB-Welded it on to the flange.  I then used a piece of plastic hosing to drain water down through the drain hole.  It's all covered up, however, so the Judges will never know.

I have owned two 1966 Fastbacks from Metuchen that both had the nipples and hoses. They are 6T09A 124342, and -370. Scheduled build October 8th, actual build for the first one ?? and the second one is K12.
Possibly a left over on early 66s...
my current FAstback ia also Metuchen and built 30th of November (scheduled 3rd Dec) - will be interesting to see if it is present on this car - when I start "playing" with it.
