I thought all 8 or 9" V8 rear axles for 65-66 were the same 28 spline shafts?

Axles are all OK,no bearings etc. as they came out of trunk of 6000 mile Shelby that was left to rot down behind a barn.

According to the service paperwork the Hipo and Shelbys got better made axles.Kinda along the same deal as the hipo block versus the standard 289 block. There has been alot of talk about the subject and they are still for sale

I've heard that too, but dimensionally and functionally, the axles are all interchangeable.

Did the shelby /k code axels have a taper down on the shaft near the splines like a 65-66 8 inch rear axel or were they the same thickness all the way  from the outer flange to the splines.  Chuck.

Yes. the 9" axles used in shelbys/K codes had the taper on the axle tubes.

Not the axel tubes but the axels themselves.
