Status update 72 Mach 1
« on: October 03, 2013, 12:12:59 PM »
I have come to this community so many times in the past for information and guidance I thought it only approrpriate to show everyone what their input is going into.  I have had this car for 29 years with it being the first car I ever purchased at age 15.  It has not been driven since 1999 and the concourse restoration began in 2009.  It is not the best specimen to begin with as most of the orginal metal has now been replaced, but the sentimental value has spurred me on.  Here are a few photos to share.  Thank you to everyone who has helped guide me down the concourse restoration road.  First time I have ever done this with a car and it is a learning lesson everyday.

The extra care and time really shows. Now all the fun begins. Putting all those finished or new pretty pieces on the "new" car :)

Thanks for sharing

The car looks great!  Do you have any more pics of the inside of the trunk?  I am working on a 73 Mach and would assume it will be similar to that one.  Wondering about the overspray and trunk color.  Thanks for any pics.  Your car is beautiful and can't wait to see the finished product.

Thanks,

Thank you for the words of encouragement.  The 72-73 trunk paint is black with aqua/white flecks.  The 71 trunk color is gray with white flecks.  Zolotone is the paint I used and it appears very much like the original.  It can be purchased through TPC Global paint supply.  I will try posting some pictures again for the third time.  It does not seem to like my pictures this week.

My only advice to help learn from my mistakes was to have your trap door installed if you have the folding seat option.  It needs to have some of the trunk paint oversprayed on the lower portion of the door.  Mine was not ready for paint, so I now need to install it and touch up the trunk paint on the bottom of the door.

Posting a couple of 73 examples (they are better than my 72 ones currently)  just for comparison and reinforcing the color and tone posted.

The last one appears to be sun bleached from exposure in the wrecking yard.

Have noticed a number of examples with a silhouette of a mask placed over the rear marker opening in the quarter panel though each marker light had the Zolatone on it  ???
