1964 1/2 square end sill plates
« on: February 22, 2014, 10:59:08 AM »
Does anyone know when the early square end sill plates were changed over to the rounded end 65-66 type? Is anyone reproducing the square end sill plates?

Don't know the date, whenever they ran out of stock. I had a Dec. '64 coupe parts car that had one square corner sill and one rounded corner sill. As far as I know, no one is reproducing the square corner. I picked up a "better" set of square corner sills than my originals and am having them cleaned, striped and re-anodized.

Since the usage is not dependent on other parts or processes like the generator change over, the point where the change over is likely different depending on what plant your asking about ;)

If we had that at least we could look for a pattern rather than looking at all the plants.

This would be relating to the Dearborn assembly plant. My car is a June built 64 1/2. Thanks

A June 64 built Dearborn car would have had the square cornered sill plates. My 4500 mile Aug built car has them.

Great that narrows it down allot ;)

Haven't tracked this detail on my spread sheets like I have for San Jose but looking through my picture the change appears to have taken place between car 631036 (highest assigned VIN I found with square corners) and 675924 (lowest assigned VIN with the rounded corners that appears to be original to the car.  Plenty of earlier cars that had carpet changed and rounded corner sill plates but those stood out in the pattern that developed

So approx Mid Feb into March at this point. San Jose change over by contrast was earlier it appears

Hope this helps

When was the change over for San Jose?

Best I can figure from examples the change over took place between the assembly of car #175262 and car #180051
