68 What is this? Answer - Circuit Breaker
« on: March 03, 2024, 03:16:47 AM »
Yet another dumb ass question?.
What is the 2 post terminal thing circled in red?
Mounted to a zinc plated folded piece of panel steel, which itself is sandwiched between the fuse block and the insulation pad? My old harness has one and yet the factory electrical assembly manual doesn?t seem to show it?
Thanks in advance. Memory is failing me!  ::)

Do you have fog lights?

Alas I cannot find them amongst my box of lights the PO included, but it was a GT equipment group car so I presume it had them once. And upon checking the web stores it does indeed look like a fog light CB. So I guess that is it?

The circuit breaker itself will not tell.  What are the wire colors (including stripes, if any)?  If the colors don't provide the answer, you will have to chase the wires down to their destination.

As Midlife said the yellow would indicate AC but who knows what kind of creative wiring has been done. Mugnus if you do not have some assembly manuals you should get some, they will help you a lot. The electrical manual shows all of the circuits and wire colors. Fog light wiring is grey and blue.

As I said in my first post, I have the Electrical assembly manual (plus all the others), and that part is not shown.
Presumably as it is for the GT option only?

The colours on my harness for both wires, are blue with a black trace.
The first photo is from elsewhere but shows the part better than my own photos.

A quick search reveals all the reproduction fog lamp harnesses I found have the same colours as mine. Blue with a black trace. And my original harness had those wires taped inside it. No sign on them being added later.
Blue with a black trace as far as I can see.

Anyway mystery solved, it appears to be for the GT fog lamps that were fitted when new.
Thanks.

The Z bracket is a Ford part and was used for optional equipment such as AC, Tilt wheel, Fog lights and seat belt reminder.

+1.  Also convenience control low fuel relay.  With all of those, it gets tight.

Correct my previous post. It is Ford engineering part number C8ZB-14A301-A, bracket, as shown in the 1968 Mustang Electrical Assemble Manual (AM0023), used for mounting circuit breakers used for fog lamps (pg53), safety convenience group (pg56) and air conditioning (pg83). Strangely, the 1968 bracket does not appear in the 1975 Ford Car Parts (aka MPC), but is in the 1960-68 edition (C8ZZ-14A301-A, as do two variations used in 1967).

You say car is non-A/C?  Sure looks like an A/C blower next to it??
