Title: Red Oxidized Primer? 1969 Dearborn Jan 69 build
Post by: 13Outlaw on November 29, 2015, 04:21:25 PM
I just got the old suspension out of my R-Code Mach restore. The car has never been touched aside from some bad quarter work and some new paint over the years. However, the fire wall area and fender aprons have never been touched. As I sanded/scrapped away the paint, rust, and factory undercoating I can see the original color. Is this the original red oxidized primer in the picture attached? You can see it pretty good in the upper left. I have a color vision issue, so it is sometimes hard for me to distinguish shades. Thanks for any help.

Since we normally find the front end of the 69 Dearborn cars shot with red oxide primer and the picture shows the  upper shock tower pocket then I believe what your looking at should be the original tint and tone of the paint applied to that part of the car.

From the (approx) base of the firewall to the rear cross member we would expect to find something different applied as described in other threads

Jeff, I would like to clarify a bit, sorry, but did you mean that is the red oxide I am seeing or the original Candyapple T code paint? Thanks again!

It appears (just by the picture you posted and your description) that the picture shows a larger section of exterior color at the top of the shock tower and what maybe red oxide along the "bend" at the back of the shock tower where you didn't sand down to bare metal. Thought that was what you were asking about
