Title: unsold 69 shelby vin change by ford
Post by: bgp429 on October 15, 2016, 09:26:45 PM
It is my understanding there were unsold 69 Shelbys and Ford changed the VIN to 70 models. How did they actually do it? Was the riser or fender re-stamped and what did they do with the dash VIN tag. Also the door VIN changed from a embossed aluminum tag to a sticker in 70. Just curious as I have never seen one of these cars.

All 70 Shelbys were born as 69's.

The under the fender VINs was left unchanged . Same with the engine VIN's. The dash vins were changed and the sticker added to the door . There were a number of other things that were done to comply with 1970 standards but they did not relate to the VIN change.

All the paperwork (except buildsheet) was changed over to 1970 as well.

Interesting, didn't know there were actually no 70's made. Did Ford disclose the change to buyers?

One note to the 1970s style door sticker that was used on the 1970 Shelby was the sticker did not have a date typed on sticker like all 1970 non-shelby mustangs.
