At the end of the seal where it attaches to the body where the door closes is a metal tab with a hole in it that makes one think there should be a fastener there. There is not a hole where one existed before? Is this the correct seal?? All fits well up to this point, any help appreciated. Thanks

You may have a replacement weather strip. The 65 Body Assembly Manual shows the end is glued in, the 66 Body Assembly Manual has a screw. The part numbers are different for both years.
Do you have a set of the Osborn Mustang Assembly Manuals for your car's year? If not, you should get a set.

Mine was built Nov 17, 1964. I have roof rail weatherstripping with the metal mounting tab as well. There are no holes in the A pillar. Did the early fastbacks have glued weatherstripping? Should I cut off the tabs and glue it? I don't want to drill anything.

That is what I would suggest your weather strip will likely not be exactly like the original but at least this detail will be original. Do you have the retaining metal square to hold the rear end of the weather strip at the B pillar?

The ones I removed had two plastic push pins that went through the weatherstripping into the base of the B pillar. No metal at all. What I would like is to see some pics of other early fastbacks for comparison. Mine also came with the little metal trim caps on the interior trim panels. I think ford stopped that sometime in late 64.

Was the other, replaced weather strip the original or an earlier replacement? Did it/they have the forward metal tab?
When the interior trim changed over depended on the assembly plant as do many details. Where was your car built?

The ones I removed had the A pillar tabs but there are no holes in the A pillar. My assumption is they were replaced in the 80s when the car got a moderate restoration. (Not a very good one either).

Looked through my pictures and I don't have detailed pictures of the end retainer method for those cars to help out. Must report that many of the plates were not reused when owners replaced the weather strip over time so its a detail that often gets overlooked and forgotten on early fastbacks

Thanks for looking. I just pulled the metal tab out and glued the weatherstripping to the A pillar. Looks fine and no new holes.
