I just finished polishing out my convertible windshield trim. I think it turned out ok. :) while I was doing so I noticed my windshield is not a white oval Carlite windshield but a carlite block letter windshield. Is this windshield acceptable for concours driven? Can a white oval Carlite windshield even be found any more?

Was looking into this myself not long ago since my windshield is the only non original glass in my car. This was the best I came up with.

The correct etch would be Carlite cursive script. At most it would be a 1pt deduction for the incorrect logo. There are several companies (PS Auto Glass & ECS Automotive) that will etch the correct logo with a date of your choice. It's not something that is particularly difficult to get right. It's slightly expensive, but still cheap compared to what some windshields cost for other cars.

Think the question might be reworded as "Should I expect a deduction of showing?" The answer is yes as you have already found out. And though it doesn't matter in your question, yes they are available.

Actually it does matter in my question, or second question of the two. :) being that they available the question as to whether they are acceptable becomes less of importance.

I wouldn't replace my windshield because of a 1 point deduction. Not worth it IMHO but hey to each is own. Correct the cheaper and easy stuff first.

That 1pt deduction could make the difference between a gold/silver or silver/bronze... if points mean that much. I personally would not consider an incorrect windshield, especially when they are so easy to get right nowadays.

Normally I would agree but there are a few changes that I am doing for either safety as I drive my car, or personal preference. Some that wont cost points in driven ( radials, dual bowl master cylinder ) and some that will, like my paint. I just don't like orange peal, that used to at least be a 1pt loss. I am also,sure I will miss something or something will be hard to find.

General question on judging and repro Carlite glass. No point deduction for the modern glass even with correct Carlite script? Modern glass has to have the DOT information, which was not on vintage glass.

I bought a windshield recently from PS Auto glass with correct etching. I didn't notice DOT markings anywhere.

I took a picture of what I think is the original glass in my other mustang, 1966 GT Fastback. What number would be the date code?

Just be aware of these choices and be happy with them. At some point you will own a car that will only bring home a silver or bronze (at shows with those sorts of awards) so make you choices accordingly. At MCA orange peel is much more if it is lacking but that's a different discussion

If I end up with a silver because of safety or lack of orange peal I can live with that. :)
The radials, master cylinder and bc/cc urethane paint are my only planned deviations from original. The color is its original tahoe turquoise hue. Bias ply tires are just not safe on California freeways.
