Title: A/C Compressor Brushes
Post by: bryancobb on February 19, 2011, 09:40:36 AM
I just finished taking a repro set of Tecumseh Compressor brushes and replacing the generic mounting bracket with an OEM FoMoCo one.  I cleaned and clear-coated the bracket.  Then I used tubular brass rivets just like original, and borrowed my airplane mechanic's brake rivet setter.  Here's the results.

Cool, I've thought about doing this before.  Can you supply the source for the rivets?

If you need the setter, get it from any aviation tool company.

Thanks.  IIRC, the rivets are usually zinc plated.  Is there a particular reason you chose brass?

I have a hand rivet squeezer.

I thought the zinc/steel ones would be harder than brass and thought I may break the phenolic pieces when crimping.
I think I have seen some originals with brass.
