Title: cleaning and repairing dashpad
Post by: sparky65 on August 19, 2011, 05:00:30 PM
I am not sure why but my dash pad and my A-pillar pads are really sticky.  My guess is its some residue left over from some product used on them years ago. What should I use to try to clean these that wont take the color out?  They are black.  Also on the dash pad there is a 1" long split.  Is there a way to repair this?  I haven't heard anything good about the repro's so I want to try to salvage this one.

Mineral spirits or something similar would be fine.

Unfortunatly I think the 1 inch split will off set deficiencies in the repro even after all the work of cleaning off the sticky IMHO. Bob

If the spilt were on a seam it might be repairable but if it is in the open as bob said a reproduction may be best. I do see nice used black pad from time to time. Marty

Thanks guys.  Not really what I wanted to hear about the dash pad.  I guess I will have to try a repro for now while I look for a good used one.

Don't know if you ever would consider re-dying one but I have a blue one out of a 67 or 68 which was split free last I looked. Been on a shelf for the last 30 years.
