Title: UPDATE 9/22/16 Restoration Updates - 6S033
Post by: Brant on September 16, 2011, 09:33:31 AM: We have started the restoration of 6S033 and should have rather regular updates on our Blog with a lot of pictures. I'll post here when I post a new update. The car is now on the rotisserie and has been stripped. Check on more here

That latest date of 6 21 is on the LH Front Fender Apron.

There is a 6 20 stamping on one of the inner rear wheel housings, but that 6 21 is the latest date that I saw on any of the sheet metal. Oh, by the way, one of the hood hinges has a 6 21 date too.

It would normally get covered by the self-leveling sealer. I've found that date to be one of the latest sheet metal dates on other cars I've restored.

Thanks, Charles. I'll have to check this area. As long as it is not covered by the export brace reinforcement piece that is welded in that middle area.

Did you find the writting on the front cross member or the taillight panel? To name a couple of locations

That's about it on the markings on the body. I did not find anything on the tail light panel area. Here is the radiator support. It is like most I have seen.

Multiple K's are typical in my experiences, along with often a single "D" though the person marking this car (normally one of three) might be the one that placed the D higher - possibly didn't like bending over as much ;)

Thanks and yes, that pitting/surface rust stuff came from the previous owner storing the car on more or less a dirt floor for many years.

I'm enjoying following this one too! I like the "X" you pointed out (This "X" shows where a factory spot weld was supposed to be applied, but was missed.) Don't remember seeing that too much before but now I found two on my 67!

These?...not sure, they don't have sawtooth edges. Maybe you saw a picture of something else or another car?

I had a 66 Shelby I bought 15 years ago and it was wrecked hard in the front and not repaired correctly along with the typical Midwest rust out to the sheet metal. this must have been a very well taken care of car in a arid climate. A car this solid gives you a big advantage of not having to deal with junk TIAWAN sheet metal. This will be a very nice car.

They are there to hold the car on the rotisserie.

There are lots of different procedures and mountings on the actual assembly line painting. The goal is to duplicate the original look. Tons of thought was put into that to make it happen. BTW, in the pictures above, the outside body is not even painted yet. More pictures very soon.

All colors were custom matched to what was originally found on the car.

Just some clean up, installed original steel wheels & hubcaps, and driven it!

Just to clarify for everyone, the thread is about a '66 Carryover GT350, and that's what the engine is going in.

Someone brought up the HiPo coupe too. To answer your question about the tires, they are 194/75 x 14 Kumho Solus KR21. I don't think they are even made anymore. It's getting tough to find a nice looking 14 inch tire...much less one with a whitewall.

You are correct. For the Concours Driven cars, the Kumho's are no longer available. Right now the WSW choices are Uniroyal, Hankook, and Toyo. (Of course in addition to the classic car specialty offerings.)

Have seen this mismatch on other examples. BTW did you find any labeling on the back side of the interior rear quarter trim?

Jeff,

I didn't find any labeling on this car, but I have seen other early cars with a file folder type label identifying parts. Chuck Cantwell recalls that they were initially concerned that parts from one car may not fit properly in another car. They soon discovered that this wasn't an issue, and the parts got mixed up but with no problems concerning fit.
