Title: Correct 1965 Deluxe F2 F5 F6 F7 F8 F9 Interior Color Schemes
Post by: '65 Full Throttle on March 04, 2012, 09:12:53 AM
I have found it to be very challenging to find accurate information, or picture examples, of the F2, F5, F6, F8, F9 deluxe interiors for 1965. I'd like to know specifically what interior parts were colored to constitute the appointments.

F2 - White / Blue appt., F5 - White / Red appt., F6 - White / Black appt., F7 - White / Aqua appt., F8 - White / Ivy Gold appt., F9 - White / Palomino appt.

To the best of my understanding and research (using F5 as an example):
The seats were solid WHITE along with kick panels and door panels.
The appointment parts colored RED are: carpet (and kick panel carpet), crash pad, radio speaker grille, lower windshield moulding, sun visors, and seat belts.

My confusion lies on the following:
-What color were the quarter trim panels? If red does that include the flat section directly above the ash trays?
-A PDF I read stated the metal door areas would be appointment colored? If so please clarify. I've seen the doors two tone colored with seats, but not the F# deluxe interior options.
Windshield posts? Please clarify.

I don't think I've ever seen a picture of a fully correct F# interior.

Thanks for the help!

According to "How To Restore You Mustang" by Larry Dobbs and Donald Farr the interior decor groups were painted as follows: all the "Fx" colors would be White, R/M 5767 in 65 (parchment R/M 5779 in 66) - Instrument panel, steering column, kick panels, door panels, console, Rally Pac. The rest gets painted the "other" color, the rest being - crash pad, radio speaker grill, lower windshield molding, windshield post, sun visors, metal door surfaces, quarter trim panels, Fastback side vent panels, Fastback overhead moldings. The general mix of colors follows my 66 GT Fastback with interior code 62 so I think it's correct.

Here's what I'm pretty sure is correct from Klauss' Early-Mustang site.
F8 (1965)
F6 (1965
(http://www.early-mustang.com/65color/F6.jpg)
F5 (1965)

F9 (1966)
F8 (1966)
F6 (1966)
F4 (1966)
F3 (1966)

That's the most help I can offer.  The Klauss site is generally accepted as being accurate.

What exactly are the interior "metal door surfaces". Every 1965 F# interior picture I've seen only show white doors.

I noticed on the early-mustangs site:

The F8 example has two tone seats. Is that incorrect? My understanding is the seats would be all white.

The F6 example has a white lower windshield moulding and is missing kick panel carpet. Is that incorrect? My understanding is the windshield moulding would be black and kick panel carpets black.

The F5 example shows a red colored kick panel. Is that incorrect? My understanding is they should be white.

The F9 example shows white colored quarter trim panels. Is that incorrect? From what I've seen in print they should be colored.
I haven't seen any F# interior pictures with the appointment color on the quarter trim panels. Most however have the quarter trim panels out of view along with visors.

This is why I'm having such a hard time finding out what is truly correct or a picture example of the doors and quarter trim panels the color scheme they are supposed to be from what I've read.

It maybe the color contrast on my computer but the F8 1965 color shown in the picture looks like Interior Trim Code 68 Ivy Gold and White.
Am I incorrect on this?

Right, F8 is not the 2-tone seat interior

The F6 example has a white lower windshield moulding and is missing kick panel carpet. Is that incorrect? My understanding is the windshield moulding would be black and kick panel carpets black.

Yes, you're right on all that

The F5 example shows a red colored kick panel. Is that incorrect? My understanding is they should be white.

Yes, should have a white kick panel

The F9 example shows white colored quarter trim panels. Is that incorrect? From what I've seen in print they should be colored.

The F9 sample photo is correct.  The colors weren't ever split on the convertible rear quarters.

This is why I'm having such a hard time finding out what is truly correct or a picture example of the doors and quarter trim panels the color scheme they are supposed to be from what I've read.

Agree that it can be complicated, but consider that the appointment trim interiors were the same color scheme as standard interior and then the 2-tone seat interiors had the A-pillars and metal part of the doors the same color.

From what I've spent the entire day gathering all the F# deluxe interiors (1965) had solid white seats with colored appointments (dash pad, lower windshield trim, carpet, and seat belts). F8 should have all white seats.

I think there is a lot of confusion between F# deluxe interiors and two-tone interiors. The F# interiors from what I've gathered have white visors, kick panels, doors, and quarter trim panels, whereas the two-tone did not for the two-tone effect.

There is no solid resource in print that I've been able to find on the F# interiors to confirm.

If you're restoring a car with one of these interiors, it's fine to inquire here if you have questions.  Think you're on track now though.

The pictures on early-mustang are not always 100% perfect, due to the fact, that it's really hard to find pictures of perfect matching interiors. We're glad to have most of the interiors in nearly perfect condition to give a hint how a specific interior looks like.
If we'll get better pictures we'll change it.

The F5 example shows a red colored kick panel. Is that incorrect? My understanding is they should be white.
Here is my F5 interior, which I believe is pretty correct (that's not an invitation to anyone to prove otherwise ;))

It's hard to tell from the picture, but the kick panel is white and the kick panel carpet is red.

That is by far the best example of a F# interior I've seen. If you could find the deluxe seat belts it would be perfect.

I'm looking at interior code 28, which is what i have and my kick panels are the light ivy gold and not the dark green as pictured...Now my fastback panels are dark green but not those...The door panels look a little darker as well...

Just a reminder that deluxe seat bets aren't unique to the deluxe interior. You can have a deluxe interior and standard seat belts or standard interior and deluxe seat belts. In 1966 with the deluxe seat belts from the factory you got the seat belt warning light.

STACY,

I ABSOLUTELY DREEEAAAMMM OF FINDING MY RANGOON RED 65 CONV'T THAT WAS STOLEN IN 1993, AND PUT YOUR INTERIOR IN IT!  THAT IS THE MOST GEORGEOUS INTERIOR I HAVE EVER SEEN.

You have to wear fresh washed clothes when you drive it though to keep it that hospital clean.

Someone was asking on another forum and it got my curiosity up...

While '65 standard blue interiors get the med blue irid paint, and '65 deluxe (along with '66 standard and deluxe) get the light blue irid, I would assume that a '65 F2 (White/Blue appts) would have the standard darker blue '65 dash pad rather than one sharing the lighter '66 blue, correct? I've never seen a '65-style blue pad in any other shade...

All the '65 blue dash pads would be the same shade of medium blue.
