Title: What do you do when your Mustang becomes a weakling
Post by: Sunlitgold68 on January 14, 2010, 11:34:18 PM
Back in 1998, the SVT Cobra was Ford's most powerful production vehicle rated at 305 HP. As time passed the GT's developed 260 HP but still not as fast as the cobra. Few years later the SVT cobras had superchargers and 390 HP. The GT's got more power in 2005 rated at 300 HP and then went to 320 HP. Now with the upcoming release of the 2011 Mustang rated at 412 HP and the V6 rated at 305 HP, the first generation modular engines are really weaklings. Does this diminish their place in history? Would you think less of your Mustang?

It just seems strange to know you have a cobra emblem on the side of your fender and a V6 stock Mustang might take you in the 1/4 mile.

Having said all that, it would be nice to have a 2011 Mustang GT, and there are rumors of a GT350 with slightly more power than the GT  :)

I happen to own a 1997 cobra convertible which I show and enjoy. I also have to 2007 mustang's, a california special  and a GT coupe I like them all and they all drive differently..... bbut they are all mustangs. I have friends with first generation cars that have drum brakes and manual steering and only 200 hp hi-po motors and they won't trade for the world and they are worth more than three 2011 GT will be. But I wouldn't mind having a 2011 GT or GT/CS in my garage along side the rest of the herd. Evolution is a great thing.....

This is a very interesting topic. What do I do? I guess nothing in my power can change evolution. I own a stock V8 '79 Pacecar with a whopping 140HP. I plan on putting a 4bbl on it along with dual exhaust. It has a small cam in it currently but with all those upcoming mods I might, if I'm lucky get 175HP. As we all know the Pacecar along with any 5.0 mustang back in 1979 was the hottest ticket in town. Hmmm, this is depressing though as my 2008 Ford Fusion SEL AWD can wax this car anyday. LOL!!! I guess I'll have to buy another Mustang.

We've had this discussion with some friends recently.
One generation of Mustang doesn't diminish the others. We are fortunate they continue and we have variety.
I love my daily driver GT 1997. I don't need over 400 hp to get to the grocery store and work.

My husbands DD 2007 GTCS would probably spank our 1970 Boss 302, but the Boss still maintains its value both sentimentally and financially. No one would call a Boss a weakling.
