Just an observation but the early cars did not participate fully in the run up of prices in the recent years. Also not IMHO a car that many baby boomers dreamed of owning when they were young.

Affirmative to what Jeff said. When you see an Olds 442 go a shade over 200K, it rings true. WAS a bit surprised to see that Pace Car fall short. Mach I's are another story. Saw a silver jade 69 428 Mach fall short in the 50's. What those "announcers" between mistakes!, said is true re provenance! And those cars were the ones that dominated the last 2 days as the better cars appeared.
Off topic, was sickened by the pics from Russo & Steele auction. The saddest pic to me, was a lowly 57 Plymouth plain two door, out in the heavy rain.with a sign on w/shield....29 original miles!!

I assume we are talking about Barrett Jackson here in Scottsdale....I was there Friday with my dad and did not even see that Pace car, no idea where it was at...Did see a nice 64 1/2 Prairie Bronze conv mustang. Apparently it got 695 points out of 700 at an MCA show. On a side note was also At Russo and Steele when it reopened after the brutal storm. Lots of damaged cars. There was a nice 66 K code T-5 Mustang that escaped damage. Was nicely done. Worst damage I saw was a 1970 Superbird. I'll post a pic later...The Tucker was a sight to see...

I've had some emails asking if that was my car since it came from SLC.
Not mine.
I know that PC well though.
Not at all concours.
Has won some local awards in the past.
Mike and I were guessing it'd go for about $17K, so I think considering what I know of it, it went high.
Mike was asked to go to a shop in SLC and "critique" it before it went to Phoenix. He doesn't think they bothered to correct any of the things he recommended before it was sent to the auction.
Even though a Pace car isn't the dream of baby boomers, it is a neat piece of Mustang history.
Mine is priceless.

I remember that car from when it was heavily damaged many years ago in an accident on an icy Utah bridge. It seems to have been repaired fairly well, but I know it doesn't have its original radiator support, which is a critical component to a correct Pace Car restoration. Many other incorrect items that I see from the B-J photos that confirm it is not up to MCA concours standards.
Like Joyce & Mike, mine is priceless to me!
