Dark argent paint code
« on: August 31, 2012, 10:11:46 AM »
In the General Discussion under Body, Paint & Sealers, 8/26/09 post date, "Paint for lower rear grill on 1967" there is a paint code of PPG/Ditzler #32600 Dark Gray Poly.  Is this same color as Dark Argent used on the Mach 1 rocker panels?  Or does anyone know what the paint code is for Dark Argent  for the Mach 1 rocker panels?  Thanks!

I used PPG DDL-3053 Med. Grey Poly tinted with black to match some NOS parts that are also painted this color. I recall getting this a long while back from a Mustang Monthly article, possibly Bob Perkin's column. I've passed this along to others and all have been happy with the results.

This paint is used on the grille, rocker molding panels, and sport wheelcovers.

If your rocker moldings use the cast-in "Mach 1" letters, the surface of the letters should be painted bright silver. I applied "One Shot" enamel (found in art supply stores) with a rubber roller. This matched an NOS panel exactly.

See attached photo - note this is a metallic paint. It looks considerably lighter in the sun than in the shade.

Thanks for the info.   How much black?  Why is this paint code so illusive?!  I don't have any NOS parts to compare it to.  There is some paint left on the back side of the panels but that is all I have to compare it to.

When you made that, how much did you make and how many grams of black?

Anyone else know of a number?  Or if the '67 rear grill color is the same as dark argent?

Found this information in Mustang Monthly, "I use either Ditzler DDL or DAR 33053 Medium Gray Poly for 1970 argent."  When someone asked about repainting the centers of their hubcaps.

Sorry, I have a note that said DDL-3053 but I guess its DDL33053. Very sorry for the mistake. Thanks 70Mach for linking to the original source.

If I had a formula written down I would have shared it. That's why I said "tint by adding black" as you'll likely find the PPG paint a little light compared to a reference part. The backside of a rocker panel is a good reference.  Out of the 8 rocker panels you should have a big enough patch to use as reference, right?

Just wanted to ask if you had the formula just in case.  There is some paint on the back sides of the rocker panels, not a lot.  We also mixed up some DuPont 9426 which is supposed to be the color for the rear grill option on '67's.  It also looks really close.

I found the exact dark grey poly color on carpaintonline.com.  The link is here:
https://www.carpaintonline.com/products.php?PPGCode=32600&PNId=4191&SPCId=134

I have a dusk rose mustang that had the grey panel.  It's been painted the dusk rose color and I'm trying to restore it back to original.  I'm trying to find a definite answer as to how much of the back panel is the dark grey poly.  I know it goes up to the top lip of the panel but how far across that lip does it go?  I've been all over the internet and discovered only 13 of the 67's had this option.  Mine is one of those 13.  It's nearly impossible to find out any information about it because it's so rare.  Any help would be appreciated!

Have you shot this and compared it to an original sample? The 70 color always looked slightly different from (what your think of using it for) the 67 application

As you can see - both originally carried different paint code numbers

This PPG chart lends support to the 32600 you referenced.

For a 70?  - the section this is in?

No problem - he's got two somewhat related threads going> BTW the paint chart in the Library shows the same old paint code - as does the 2009 thread
