You have the lamp facing the wrong direction. The bulb should be facing the windshield like the red one, otherwise the mercury switch is in the wrong position to operate when the hood is open.

There were multiples posted. I know the red with the foil is a picture from Google.  Just make sure the top of the bulb faces the windshield. By the way, Jim makes a good point..  :P

That is how it is suppose to work. If it is not broken do not fix it. Mine is Ford and mounted as it is suppose to be and works perfectly.

Those were "stolen" parts, or were stolen by from the owner who posted them on Craig's List?  Did you win the NOS hoodlamp I found you on Ebay?
