Looks like small block.  What are the part number stampings?

+1 . It will work on any 65 smallblock however as Charles indicated the 4 digit number on the mounting flange will determine the exact application. FYI in 66 the fuel filter was relocated to the carburetor so the fuel filter at the fuelpump was eliminated after 1965 model year.

Believe you have found the casting mold number what Charles was asking for  and Bob referenced  is the stamped number and letter on the flange (green arrow in the picture below)

The purple arrow indicates where the date is normally stamped

Where the green arrow is it looks like a 248A or 2A8A and where the pink arrow is 419

The green arrow is where the date code is stamped, the pink arrow is the carter part number. Your "248A" or "2A8A" is day-month-year-shift, so 2A8A would be 2nd day, A is January, 8 is the year, first shift. That may be 1958 or 1968. The numbers "419" should be four numbers and possibly a letter. All the cross references of Carter pumps in the 60-68 MPC are four numbers (My 65 pump is 3911S).
Verify the Carter logo on the side. Again, my 65 has this logo in raised letters CARBURETER.

Yes he may have reversed the date and id but may be not. Instead I was reversed  :(

Here are the pics of those areas

Thanks for the picture. Being upside down (from installation) its easy to get each position backwards. What I was doing I believe

Looks like 2A8A is the date and 419 S (might be missing a digit) is the ID Typical to find an S added at the end of the code

Possibilities - 4193 Small block application (as others have mentioned early in the thread) Given it has the fuel filter we can rule out the original application in some fof the MPC cars listed I believe leaving us with 65 full size Ford with a 289 after 2/25/65

There is a 4194 but its a big block listing all from 1966 to 68. So that doesn't make for a good match

This is from a 67-8 MPC later versions have different information listed (applications reduced/limited in comparison)

We'll see what others can make of the information you provided. The pictures helped :)

Looks like 2A8A is the date
Which decodes as:
- "2A8A" is day-month-year-shift, so 2A8A would be 2nd day, A is January, 8 is the year, first shift. That may be 1958 or 1968.
If the "date decode" in the library is accurate for fuel pumps.
- and 419 S (might be missing a digit) is the ID Typical to find an S added at the end of the code
I can almost make out a 5, or 8, or 7.
We are assuming an application for Mustangs but the date codes are not telling us that. The picture in the first post says "Made in Canada", which may be another clue.
Jim
One other clue, it's crimped, not screwed together.

Since the 221 V8 came out in 1962 we can eliminate 1958 as a possibility. Also, Carter date codes did not use this format until perhaps 1966, so IMHO it is no earlier than 1966.

Jim Curylo (JWC66K) asked me to chime in on this subject.

What you have here is a previously rebuilt fuel pump where pieces have been mixed and matched to suit the rebuilders application needs. You have, as others have said, a January 2, 1968 date code. All Ford pumps beginning in model year 1968 have a 3/8" inlet nipple where this one is 5/16". Therefore this cannot be a later Ford truck application as some do have filters but a 3/8" inlet nipple. Carter did make replacement pumps for earlier applications but there were no early applications with crimped fuel pumps and fuel filters where the stamping number began with a 4. Just to throw in another possibility for those that have noticed a 5, 6 or 7 in the stamped number is a 4567-S which fits a 68/69 302 and 69 351W. Those pumps do not have a filter either but could account for the pump casting. The CARbureTER Made in Canada casting is proper for part of the 1968 model year. All this said, the pump in question will definitely fit a 65 standard 289 Mustang, Falcon, Comet and Fairlane. Full size Fords with a 289 did not have the integral fuel filter.

In regards to where the stamped numbers and date codes are stamped, I have seen a lot of variations on which side they are on, the direction of the numbers and spacing of the stampings. There are many times that the numbers are illegible even with the pump in your hand and under a magnifying glass. The 3911-S is the worst as the 11 part of the number is almost on top of each other.

Thank you for letting me stir the pot on this subject up a little and add just a little more confusion.
