1971 sportsroof rear stripe

(1/1)

1970shelbyguy:
hi everybody-  just purchased a 71 j code sportsroof.  mostly orig paint. is there a rear deck lid  "mustang"  lettered tape stripe sold that is correct for my beast?  never see it advertised in catalogs.  stripe is still there on lid. goes on the L&R qtr pieces too. argent in colour.  maybe somebody out there has one?

c9zx:
A very uncommon car. A 429 SCJ Mach is rare the sportsroof even more so. I seem to remember 1971 literature showing a stripe on a non-Mach sportsroof. I'll see if I can find it. The members at the  429mustangcougars.info.50megs.com may be able to help. Welcome.

http://www.collectorcarmarket.com/content/profiles/ford_mustang_71-73/Ford_Mustang_71-73.html  Try this link. It may show what you are talking about. I do not know if Ford actually produced cars with this stripe or not. They advertised a few things they never built (ex.1971 Boss 302).

So you have a 71 CJ or SCJ non Mach sportroof, interesting car (Did own a 429CJ Mach at one point and currently a 429CJ Cougar). Looking at one I have pictures it did not have any stripe as you describe but the chrome MUSTANG letters on the trunk lid. IMHO sales brochure often do not always illustrate what was offered during the year and we have seen (possible in this case) where these offerings differ depending on when the car was built - running change.
Could it be a tape stripe that goes behind the letters that your referring to?

thought i'd post a pic of rear stripe.  able to get a proper decal kit from  graphic express.  measures right on top of existing stripe .
