[Over the years I have seen many discussions about how to tell if a 6-bolt Cobra Wedge Bellhousing is authentic or reproduction. Well, here's the way you can immediately tell if it's authentic or reproduction.
Look at the part number inside the bellhousing. If there are no dashes between the letters/numbers, it's a reproduction. Authentic pieces will have dashes. Looking at the outside, the mounting holes in the reproduction are usually but not always drilled slightly off center and the casting voids are different. see photo. The reproduction is on the left.

The last three for sale on Ebay have all been reproductions. I contacted all three sellers and told them but they sold them as authentic anyway.

You're welcome. I hope it can help to keep somebody from getting ripped off. Here's another side by side picture of a reproduction on the left and an authentic Cobra bellhousing on the right. You can see the difference right away. I'll post more comparisons soon.

One last comparison. Repro is on the left. It sold for $1,135.00 on Ebay.  Now, as of July 1st, 2021 this same reproduction is back on Ebay again. This time the price is $1,599.00. I sent the seller a message telling him it was a repro. No answer.

Located another comparison. Original Cobra bellhousing is on the right. The reproduction is on the left. Easy to see the obvious differences.

Happened across this post and fell into a little nostalgia.  I am a bit of a pack rat and don't throw a lot out.  I knew I still had a flyer in my files.  Not sure it adds a lot to the topic but some might find it interesting.  I remember installing the repro on my dad's Hipo coupe around 78 or 79.  It fit and centered perfectly.  It was my first experience pulling a trans.  I swore I would never again pull a trans without the engine coming out with it!

I took part in a discussion on another site about what the Cobra Scattershields were made of. It was said that they were made of SAE 1030 but that's mild steel. They were actually made of 4135 Chrome Moly Steel just as your ad says.

Thanks for posting those old GT Enterprises pages. I had never seen those before.

Wouldn't it be nice to have those 1990 prices again?

As of July 1st the same Cobra bellhousing listed above in REPLY #8 was up for sale again on Ebay as an original. The first time the price was $1,135.00. This time the price was $1,599.00. I sent the seller a message telling him it was a reproduction but received no reply. The listing has now been removed.

These Cobra, Wedge or R.C. Industries bellhousings/scattershields normally show up on Ebay now and then but rarely do they show up more than one at a time. Now there are six different ones on there at present. (8-5-21) Two are the early Cobra 5-bolt designs, one Wedge 5-6-bolt, one Cobra 5-6-bolt reproduction, one R.C. Industries 5-6-bolt design and one Cobra 5-6-bolt original. see pic

Another reproduction Cobra 6-bolt scattershield just showed up on Ebay and sold for $362.11. This one had a machined and drilled provision for a hydraulic throwout bearing and was not advertised as a reproduction.
