What color might this bracket be?
« on: March 24, 2011, 02:01:12 PM »
I'm repainting my 67 GT 350.  There is a bracket at the top rear of the front fender.  The bolt goes through it that has to be reached through the door jam.  Does that get body color, or is it black, or another color?  I suspect it might have been painted body color but I sand blasted the entire car 39 years ago, and did not take any pictures.
Thanks.

Jeff, my brackets, and it looks like these also, appear to have body sealer formed around (but not on) them.  On mine, after removing the bolts I almost had to pry them out from around the sealer.  The sealer looks to have body color on top.  Since these are supposed to be SG black, were they were put on when the sealer was still soft, and pushed the sealer out of the way as the bolt was tightened?  Was this done after the body paint was applied or after?  I'm confused...

I'm sure it was installed after the paint curing process and it is reasonable to assume that with the materials being fresh, that the brackets would push out seam sealer when they are bolted on.

The stuff they used for the sealer in that location stayed soft for just about ever - agree with Charles post - attaching the bracket an hour or a day later would still allow to move, wrap around or push through the bracket especially considering the amount the worker typically applied in that area
