Boss 351 front spoiler
« on: March 28, 2011, 06:24:24 PM »
I have viewed many vintage photos of Boss 351s that show the ends, close to the side marker light, of the spoiler being somewhat squared off and with a coarse grain. I've also seen photos of what are supposed to be original/NOS spoilers with the ends being less squared off and more of a rounded point and a somewhat finer grain. Does anyone know which is correct? I have one in hand made by California Pony Cars, it is more squared off. Does anyone know of another manufacturer of this part. I believe the Ford PN is D1ZZ-63001A06-A. Thanks for the help.

There was an article in a part (way back) Mustang Monthly that covered original front spoilers (normally don't recommend old articles but one comparing original parts should hold up to the test of time)  It would not be a comparison of current reproduction but at least a look at a real one.

Will see if I have a copy somewhere - or maybe someone else has already scanned it

Chuck,

Any luck on determining the correct corner profile and grain?  My car appears to still have an original spoiler (as banged up as it is) and it is more rounded than square.  I will need to replace mine and would appreciate coat tailing your research to get the correct one as well as find out if your piece was more reasonably priced or not.

Thank you,

Brian, The data I've been able to gather indicates a somewhat rounded off corner rather than a rounded point. Still not certain on the grain question. It does have a grain. The question is how coarse. Based on the above, some photos of "unmolested" 71 Boss and 72 HO (MM so ??), and a conversation with Don at OMS, a conversation with CPC, I went with the California Pony Cars reproduction. The points question is still open in my mind. The car just looks so much better with than without so, it is on the car.
